Carlisle Spray Foam Insulation Drives Industry Forward, Publishes EPD for its Complete Portfolio of Spray Foam Insulation Products
The leading spray foam insulation manufacturer is poised to help architects and builders deliver high performance structures with low environmental impact
Carlisle Spray Foam Insulation (CSFI), a leading manufacturer of spray polyurethane foam insulation products in North America, is pleased to announce the publication of a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration, or EPD, for its complete spray foam insulation product portfolio. A first for the spray foam industry, this product-specific TYPE III EPD assesses the total lifecycle environmental impact of open-cell spray foam insulation and closed-cell spray foam based on hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) and hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) blowing agents as well as CSFI’s new ultra-low global warming potential (GWP) products: SealTite™ PRO HFO and SealTite ONE. By publishing the spray foam industry’s first EPD, CSFI underlines its commitment to help deliver a more sustainable future, making it easier for architects and builders to specify energy-efficient products with a low environmental footprint.
EPDs equip specifiers with an objective, independently produced report that analyzes the energy use and environmental impact of all phases of a product’s life—from raw material extraction to end-of-life. CSFI partnered with Sphera, a leading provider of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance, data, and consulting services, to conduct a Life Cycle Assessment and Underwriters Laboratory (UL) and independently certify and publish the results.
Key findings from CSFI’s Environmental Product Declaration include:
- New ultra-low GWP products SealTite PRO HFO and SealTite ONE have a GWP that’s 84 percent lower than HFC products and 33 percent lower than the spray foam industry average for low GWP alternatives.
- The manufacturer’s open-cell products have GWP values that are up to 79 percent lower than select mineral wool products and 98 percent lower than extruded polystyrene.
“During the development of both SealTite PRO HFO and SealTite ONE, we challenged R&D and the supply chain team to view the overall environmental impact of our raw materials not as a consideration—but as a critical design requirement,” said Kevin Wiacek, Product Marketing Manager, CSFI. “As a result, our new high-performance solutions combined with the EPD can provide architects and builders the information they need to make informed product section decisions to design safe, resilient and energy-efficient structures with low environmental impact.”
